Just for today

I heard a very powerful statement today by Jason Silvia which went straight to hit the thinking button of my brain.

In one of his interviews he casually said

And in the end, we are all going to die”

We all know it. It’s no secret, yet it made more sense. It must have got something to do with the way he spoke but everything at that moment seemed trivial. When our time here is finite . ……… No one knows if tomorrow exists then why don’t we live for today?

We have conditioned our minds to speculate, over analyze, rationalize, question, then repeat….and repeat till it leads to unhappiness…….along with the burden of some lost opportunities, repent and loads of maybes.

Instead of taking leaps shall we take one step at a time?

What if

Just for today I choose happiness.

Just for today I choose to love.

Just for today I choose compassion and kindness.

Just for today I believe in unbelievable.

And then make that choice everyday.

  1. Theres a line in the film ‘Fight Club’ where Tyler says ‘You must realise that one day you will die, until you do so you are useless.’ That’s always stuck with me and what you’ve posted echoes that but with a more positive spin at the end. Take care D.

  2. Indeed it is a statement that gives rise to thought. My experience, as I believe you know, was being told that with an incurable blood cancer that was the beginning of the end. With treatments, I keep hanging in to avoid the grim reader and write as much as I can. I do not know how long there is, I have amazing support and belief from a dear love, we both live in hope. When you come to terms with the statement you begin each day giving thanks you are blessed with life for another day. When it is so real that statement has very deep meaning 🙂

  3. I found a Snoopy picture. He and his friend were sitting on a bench. The friend said:”You know Snoopy, one day we are going to die” Snoopy replied that on every other day we live. Or something like that, but I believe you get the point. I decided to be happy and live everyday. Yesterday is so gone and tomorrow, just might never happen or will be ok.
